"What can we do in the Dolan Springs area"?
you may ask.
--------------------------------
The biggest attraction in our area is the close proximity to the GRAND CANYON WEST RIM with it's SKY WALK. Countless thousands visit the GRAND CANYON to witness one of nature's most magnificent works. From downtown Dolan Springs, just drive a few miles to the 29 mile marker and turn onto Diamond Bar Road. The Rim is only 20 more miles in. It's all clearly marked. If you have kids in school, bring them to see the Canyon.
What a marvelous subject for them to write about.
National Joshua Tree Forest
We offer an abundance of enjoyment here. We are in the National Joshua Tree Forest. These 'trees' can be hundreds of years old. Their root system is very shallow and does not anchor the trees very well to the ground. The roots don't go very deep at all because of so little rain. Moisture content is close to the ground.
We always see tourists stopped along side the road and taking pictures of each other next to some Joshua trees. It's a great vacation here in Northwestern Arizona.
Here is a National Park Service link to Dolan Springs.
Hiking is wonderful out here. In Arizona, there is a lot of BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property here that just screams to have you come explore. We have some need one right her close in Dolan Springs.
No matter where in the desert you hike:
Keep in mind some safety notes. Don't hike alone, have a fully charged cell phone, a GPS is worth having, a first aid kit in your backpack and wear high top boots to prevent sprained ankles. Also always be on the lookout for unfriendly critters, like spiders and snakes. Most are as afraid of you as you are of them. But a hiking stick to 'clear the way ahead of you' isn't a bad idea. TAKE PLENTY OF WATER WITH YOU. Most of this is just a common sense thing. Think before you head out. OK? Great!
When you get out here and ready to go hiking, ask us about our OPEN SPACE and the members. We can steer you in the right direction for lots of hiking and exploring fun.

Trail Riding. If you have horses, bring them on vacation, too. Horse back riding in the 'old west' is an experience in itself. Or you can go to a ranch and go on trail rides. If you have never ridden
a horse, you don't know what you're missing. It's wonderul!
There are lots of off-road trails to ride ATV's and dirt bikes around. The mountains are especially inviting for this. CHECK FOR PROPER TRAILS before you go. And please, be mindful of the noise factor when riding. Not everyone loves to hear noisy sport machines. Respect private property too.
Photo Opportunities. Dolan Springs is at the foot of Mt Tipton. We have mountains all around us. The photo to the immediate left is of Mt. Mitten, just outside of Dolan Springs.
Mountains make for magnificent photos you will treasure for a life time. Matter of fact, it's kind of hard to find something out here that ISN'T photogenic. It's so beautiful out here.
Another 'fun' fact is that it's OPEN RANGE here. That means that cattle roam from grazing area to grazing area with no fencing. While driving, be careful not to hit any cattle. It would totally ruin their day. And, your car.

'What Did You Do On Vacation?'.
. Swimming/Boating/Fishing/Hunting.Both Lake Mead and the Colorado river are close by. Lake Havasu City to our south is like a tropical paradise. There is a lot to say about water recreation out here...too much to list here. Best way to handle this is stop by the Chamber for brochures, etc or request a mailing from us about this. Just because it's a desert out here doesn't mean we don't have water. We have plenty of it, so come out and enjoy it. and, we just received the latest Hunting & Fishing Regulations.
Prospecting. There's GOLD in them thar hills. There are prospecting clubs to join, or do your homework, put fresh batteries in your metal detector, open your maps and go find some gold, silver or remnants from decades-past that early cowboys and settlers may have left behind. And our gift shop has maps for sale along with old minig Town books
Critter Watching. Oh, ya, we got critters! All sorts of birds, jack rabbits, lizards, snakes, spiders, vultures and other adorable wildlife. They are fun just to watch or take pictures of. Bring a chair to sit on, and just watch what is around you. Nature is a wonderful thing to watch. Great experience for the kids.
So you see, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars in casinos to have fun. There is so much family fun to be had in our desert environment.
