Dolan Springs Chamber of Commerce - Gateway to Grand Canyon W. Rim SkyWalk & Lake Meade Recreation

PHOTOS BY JOHN

The photos you see here are
taken from various points in our
area. We want to show you what
we believe to be absolutely
beautiful views you normallydon't see every day. When its
time to plan your vacation or retirement, how about
considering north-west Arizona.

The photo above is of the lobby entrance to
one of the Casinos in Laughlin, Nevada. Pretty, isn't it.

 We'll start out with photos
of an area near the end of
Pierce FerryRoad
which is called South Cove. South Cove
and is part of Lake Mead
Recreation Area.
The mountains surrounding this area
are a sight
to behold.

The following two are pictures of Lake Mead
on the
Arizona side, at a place called Temple Bar.
These are
some extremely facinating natural forms
there.
The last photo is from the Temple Bar area,
but not on the Lake,
just the flats around sunset.

(Pretty, ain't it!)

Here are some from the Grand Canyon
South Rim.
North of Williams.

When you look at pictures of the Grand Canyon from
any of the rims on this or any other web site, you simply
cannot comprehend the magnificence and massiveness of it.
Looking at pictures, you lose all sense of depth, width and
length. It's something that has to be experienced in person.

How about some photos from
Lake Havasu City on Lake Havasu.

Thats the LONDON BRIDGE.
Yes, THE London Bridge!

Next photos are from CHLORIDE,
just a few miles south of Dolan Springs
. Chloride is a very historic
mining town from the turn of the century.

The photos on the right are just some of the hand painte
murals on rocks just a little from Chlorides down town.

The photo on the left is part of a mock up old western town.
Movies are made here as well as regular gunfights.

This is parallel parking, Arizona style.
The building you
see is currently a popular restaruant
that started life out many decades ago,
as a stage coach repair station.

Left: The Caverns are one of
our Chamber members listed
in the Peach Springs tab.
This is an attraction
well worth visiting.

Below: Inside the caverns more than 240' below ground.
Worth the tour!

Left: This adorable
desert tortise lives by
me. He's a lot bigger
than he looks in this
picture. They arevery gentle creatures...
and cute,too.

I was taking pictures outside
one of the casinos in Laughlin
Nevada on the Colorado River.
These fish are in the RIVER.
Yes, the water is that clean.
They hang around
the shore because they know
people will throw bread
in the water to feed them.

Next photos were taken at a place not too far from here
(Dolan Springs). The body of water you see is the
Colorado River. The location is a place called
Cottonwood Cove. The trees there are Cottonwood trees
and what looks like spider webs is the fiber of the
Cotton Wood tree. The water level is very low but
still a beautiful setting. When you come out here,
I'll show you how to get there. You will need a 4 x 4.

By the way, thats the mighty Colorado River you see.
It's fed by Lake Mead.

Here are some updated photos of the Bypass
aken May 2010.

The next photo is just before the last pieces of the actual road surface
were put into place. Sorry about the glare of the sun. :(
